DENYS JOHNSON-DAVIES is the pioneer translator of modern Arabic literature, with more than 25 volumes of translation to his name. His most recent work is the collection of short stories by Buthaina Al Nasiri, Final Night (AUC Press, 2000). He lives in Cairo.
