Through powerful pictures and concise language, this generously illustrated volume presents a straightforward, clear, and comprehensive panorama of the civilization of ancient Egypt. Beginning with a geographical and historical introduction, the book then goes on to provide the reader with an understanding of the context of the archaeological sites and great monuments, before taking us on a journey around the sites of Egypt, including some of the less well known ones in the Delta, the Faiyum, the oases, Sinai, and Nubia. Each site is illustrated by outstanding photographs that both inform and appeal. Three-dimensional reconstructions allow the reader to understand with unusual immediacy the structure, arrangement, and decoration of the most important tombs in Egypt, including those of Tutankhamun, Seti I, Queen Nefertari, and the less-well known pharaohs of Tanis, whose grave goods represent some of the greatest masterpieces of the Egyptian gold- and silversmith’s art. Egypt: Temples, Men, and Gods is an intriguing trip along the Nile to discover the millennia-old civilization that was ancient Egypt through the eyes of some of the best photographers in the world. It has a concise yet information-rich text that provides commentary on the images, charts, and specially created drawings placed throughout to help the reader through the complex and fascinating world of the pharaohs.

Alberto Siliotti is a scientific journalist who specializes in Egyptology. He has written several popular books including Guide to the Pyramids of Egypt and The Discovery of Ancient Egypt, both published by the AUC Press in 1998.
